Title: Reading the Old Testament through African eyes

Author: Johan P. Velema

Date: January 2014

Summary:

African theologians often feel tensions between their home culture and their western theological training. This paper summarizes current paradigms used for Bible interpretation in the African context: Comparison, Inculturation, Reader response, Liberation, Africa in the Bible. An example exegesis is presented for each. Thus this paper addresses Ancestors, Psalm 109, Ruth, Esther and Jeroboam. It is intended for all those who seek to share the Bible in a multicultural context.
